Overview:
In an era where public safety and infrastructure protection are paramount, our customer sought to explore how artificial intelligence and computer vision could revolutionize real-time threat detection. As part of their innovation roadmap, the company engaged Cosense to develop a proof of concept (POC) for a next-generation terrorist detection solution capable of operating in mission-critical environments such as airports and transportation hubs.
Our Approach:
Cosense designed and developed an advanced AI-driven surveillance system leveraging computer vision, machine learning, and person-tracking technologies to automatically detect and assess potential threats in real time. The system was engineered for edge computing environments, ensuring rapid data processing, low latency, and independence from constant cloud connectivity — essential factors for secure and high-stakes applications.
The POC integrated multiple high-performance AI components, including object and behavior recognition, anomaly detection, and real-time alerting, enabling operators to achieve heightened situational awareness and faster response times. Our engineers applied deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch and TensorFlow, optimized through NVIDIA GPUs and Google Coral edge accelerators, to achieve exceptional performance even under constrained computational conditions.
Impact:
The collaboration resulted in a fully functional prototype demonstrating the feasibility and reliability of deploying AI-based threat detection at the edge. The company validated the POC’s ability to significantly improve security monitoring and threat assessment processes, paving the way for future large-scale implementation across critical infrastructure sites in Italy and beyond.
Through this engagement, Cosense reinforced its position as a trusted technology partner in defense and security innovation — delivering robust, intelligent solutions that bridge the gap between research and operational readiness.
